Man On A Train

The Angel spreads her rusted feathers
The skyline huddles in the rain
The bridges hold the banks together
For the crossing of the train

I am travelling with my children
I am travelling with my wife
We are travelling far too swiftly now;
Far too swiftly through this life

Slow down, slow down
We can’t go back the way we came
Slow down, slow down
We will reach our destination just the same.

The Curse Of Superman

Horses on the open plain
Rain on the horizon
Rain on the horizon
Rain on the horizon

Trumpets from the silver screen
Herald your arrival
Herald your arrival
Herald your arrival

You'll believe a man can fly
You'll believe a man can never die
Best believe it while you can
Beware the curse of Superman

Faceless by the window pane
Not a soul can hear you
Not a soul can hear you
Not a soul can hear you

You'll believe a man can fly
You'll believe a man can never die
Best believe it while you can
Beware the curse of Superman

Rain on the horizon
Not a soul can hear you
Sun and moon arising

Forces that we can't contain
Sun and moon arising
Sun and moon arising
Sun and moon arising

You'll believe a man can fly
You'll believe a man can never die
Best believe it while you can
Beware the curse of Superman

Rain on the horizon
Rain on the horizon

I Don't Write Love Songs

I don’t write love songs.
I’m not that kind of guy: I’m too quiet and shy.
What are you laughing at?
Did I say something funny?

Every time I try, it sounds so sentimental.
You know fine well that I don’t do soft and gentle very well;
I’m not so touch-feely.

But I’ve driven out late at night in the car through the fog to the station
Where you were stranded because the trains couldn’t run.
And I was the one who went out in the rain when you flattened the tyre
And I changed it over.
Do you remember that time?
Did I say something funny?

And I was the one who jumped up in the night to fight off the intruder,
And it doesn’t matter that there was nobody there.
And I am the one who would climb to the top of a hill just to please you
And hate every moment.

What are you laughing at?
Did I say something funny?

I don’t write love songs, so don’t expect one,
Though you could have this one
Did I say something funny?
What are you laughing at?
Did I say something funny?

Dead In The Water

Keep moving forward: no time to explain
You’re tuning up to play the same old music once again
No looking backwards: no time for the past
Time to break with all the things you’re used to;
You can make a difference if you choose to

Fix your eyes straight ahead
Don't look back or you're dead
Yes, you're dead in the water

No slipping sideways
Into cul-de-sacs
Time and time again, the same old stories
You’re trading on your fading former glories

Fix your eyes straight ahead
Don't look back or you're dead
Yes, you're dead in the water

Once again, the same old situation
You’re resting on your dwindling reputation
Once, you used to have imagination

Ships in the harbour may be safe and sound;
But shouldn’t ships be sailing on the ocean, outward bound?
Onward and upward: reaching for the heights
Don’t forget the time you have you borrow
Who knows what the day will hold tomorrow

Fix your eyes straight ahead
Don't look back or you're dead
Yes, you're dead in the water

World Gone Mad

Old; I’m feeling my age and it’s old;
Everything’s strange in this world gone mad
I find myself lost in a rage at this world gone mad.

So, I’m taking requests for the show
Giving my best in this world gone mad
I find myself in need of a rest from this world gone mad

Hey, sing me a tune I can play
We’ll howl at the moon from this world gone mad
Chanson de lune
In this world gone mad I find myself
Laughing too soon at this world gone mad.
